AQA GCSE Media Studies Unit 2 Understanding the Media

This seller donates to charity. Specifically written for AQA GCSE Media Studies Unit 2, 'Investigating the Media' whereby students must "analyse and respond to media texts/ topics using the key media concepts and appropriate terminology; however the skills covered are necessary for all media students. This bundle will enable you to teach the key media concepts using an excellent documentary (which is freely available on YouTube) as your anchor point. Note- this pack does not look at documentary as a specific 'genre'. This pack would be great to introduce the key concepts or to consolidate knowledge. Plenty of Ofsted- friendly (booo) stuff in here too. Also useful for revision. The mark schemes provided are adapted from the AQA GCSE spec but, as noted, all specs require investigations and analyses of media products and the success criteria I have written is easily adaptable. This pack contains; - 76 slide PowerPoint covering the media focuses listed below - class tasks/ discussions - homework tasks - 3 exam style assessments with marking criteria grids provided for each (inspired by the AQA GCSE Media syllabus but easily adaptable for your own spec) - teacher notes Covers- - denotation and connotation - dvd cover analysis - mise en scene - music and sound - mode of address - genre conventions - ideology - camera shots - institution - narrative - representation

The focus is on analysing an advertising campaign. - Students will study a range of engaging media texts (provided) -Students will be able to learn, understand and apply some basic theories of audience. -Students will study an advertising campaign and be able to analyse texts using the key concepts. - Students will enjoy discussion and debate about a topical issue. Covers: textual analysis of media language, key audience theories. comparing media texts. Varied and adaptable tasks plus MARKED EXEMPLAR WORK and adapted easy to use mark schemes included. Mark schemes are included which have been closely adapted from the AQA scheme but can easily be adjusted to OCR or WJEC as skills the same for this aspect of media studies. Suitable for AS students and able GCSE students. Also, excellent for revision of analysing media texts. So, what's the subject? I decided to capitalize on one of the most interesting events of modern times- the unlikely election of a certain Donald Trump to enthuse my media students. One of Trump's strengths during a protracted promotional campaign leading up to the election was an EXCELLENT media team who produced a number of exceedingly clever media texts to present Trump as the hero waiting in the wings to save the nation! Obviously, Trump is a contentious issue and a few students got quite sniffy initially but the focus is on the SUCCESS OF THIS MEDIA CAMPAIGN not Trump himself and once made clear, the students really enjoyed the lessons on this. Great debates ensued among my students- although many dislike Trump it is without question that the American media were against him and you need to start from this perspective. It is so interesting. There is a fun video which sums up (1) the media bias (2) how Trump crept into power and (3) how unexpected the victory was considering he began as a total joke at the following link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tQgq_R13V3s shorter version here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qzl8xjkgXCo The unit also involves analysing Hillary Clinton's ads as a basis for comparison. If you have a query regarding this resource or need further help or information subsequent to your purchase please don't hesitate to message me. Please check out my other resources for teaching the key concepts... - Full unit including a 77 slide power point to teach multiple concepts using an AMAZING crime documentary which is free to watch on YouTube (with all tasks, resources, mark schemes and exemplar work included) https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/key-media-concepts-and-theory-full-unit-gcse-media-studies-as-media-studies-11710838 - i also have a reusable key concepts mat.
